Collectables
Collectables - Collecting things is a great hobby. Not only will you have a great collection to admire and talk to others about, but this pastime can also make you money, as some collectables become very valuable over time, especially if they are rare.
What Can You Collect?
The things you collect are called “Collectables”, and you can collect just about anything. Some examples of favourite collectables are:
- die cast models
- coins
- movie merchandise
- trading cards
- action figures
- beanie babies

Start with a Theme and Build on it
It doesn’t really matter what you collect, it is a good idea for new collectors to start with a theme, for example collect trading cards of one particular type (for example baseball cards that you can keep or trade). Once you have been collecting for a while, you might then want to branch out to other type of collectables to make your collection more interesting.
Care for Your Collectables
You may be surprised that some of the rarer collectables are very valuable, so handle them with care. It is very easy to mark cards with your finger prints which can be difficult to remove, so it is a good idea to hold them by the edge. For larger items wear a lint free fabric glove when handling your collectables.
You may also be surprised that the box that your new collectables are packaged in can add significant value to it (if you ever wanted to sell or trade it). Be very careful when opening the box, don’t throw out the box, and keep it stored in a cupboard so that the colors don’t fade and to avoid any damage to it.
Displaying Your Collection
Just like there are many types of collectables, there are just as many ways of displaying them. A few examples are given below:
- display cabinets
- frames
- albums
To make viewing and organizing your collectables, it is a good idea to keep all similar items together. Where you have larger items in a display cabinet, allocate different sections for each group of collectables.
